Our Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Department plays a vital role in supporting MSK’s mission through the implementation of programs that continuously strive to exceed and set industry standards as well as enhance the safety culture.
EHS is responsible for Fire and Life Safety, Construction Safety, Hazardous Material and Waste Management, Laboratory Safety, Occupational Safety, Healthcare Safety, Environmental Compliance and Ergonomics.
We are currently seeking a Senior Specialist, Environmental Health & Safety to join the team!
You will:

Collaborate in developing, implementing, managing, and enhancing occupational health and safety programs across the organization.

Conduct thorough incident response and investigations, supporting affected departments in implementing corrective actions.

Create and deliver occupational health and safety training materials, acting as a valuable resource for the MSK community.

Perform assessments, generate reports, and contribute to multidisciplinary teams to guide initiatives and address complex problems effectively.
You have:

4-7 years equivalent work experience in science, engineering, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or closely related field!

Experience in Laboratories is a plus!

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Pay Range: $88,800.00 – $142,200.00
This is role reports onsite – 1233 York Avenue (Scholars)

The Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Unit coordinates enterprise-wide health and safety initiatives designed to ensure a safe and healthful environment for donors, patients, personnel, and visitors while assuring compliance to federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Additionally, the EH&S Unit evaluates and recommends measures to control workplace hazards through field inspections, hazard analysis, training, and program development. As a member of the EH&S Unit, the Safety Manager will work in conjunction with the Executive Director of EH&S towards continuous safety improvements and support of the NYBCe’s EH&S Policy through the implementation of safety procedures consistent with the company’s requirements and applicable EH&S regulations, codes, and standards.

  • Continuously improve the EH&S on-boarding process across NYBCe, in collaboration with the Divisions to provide critical risk and EH&S culture awareness among new employees.
  • Support NYBC activities associated with accidents and workers’ compensation claims.
  • Conduct safety investigations to ensure root causes are determined and corrected.
  • Conduct routine safety site audits and reviews to identify systemic EH&S management gaps, develop corrective measures and implement solutions to sustain compliance with regulatory and NYBCe requirements. Ensure the timely correction of findings.
  • Participate in the development and dissemination of policies and plans for health and environmental monitoring, waste management, contamination risk assessment, biosafety, biosecurity, and other issues pertaining to animal health.
  • Assist the Executive Director of EH&S to update the fire and life safety protection program, including the coordination of building evacuation drills, shelter in-place and table-top exercises for local Divisions.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of an effective and compliant EH&S training program.
  • Respond to site EH&S related emergency situations, including fires, explosions, chemical release, medical.
  • Assist in the management of the radiation safety program.

    Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Safety, or related field of study. Applicants with a bachelor’s degree in biology or chemistry with appropriate relevant experience will be considered.
  • Preferred Master’s Degree from an accredited university in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Safety, or related field of study preferred. Applicants with a master’s degree in biology or chemistry with appropriate relevant experience will be considered.
    Related Experience
  • Minimum of five to seven (7) years environmental health and safety experience, particularly in a laboratory environment
  • Facilities EH&S program development, implementation and management experience required.
    Required Licenses / Certification
  • Associated Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) strongly preferred.
  • OSHA Authorized Trainer in General Industry preferred.
    For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed annual salary is $120,000.00 p/yr to $130,000.00 p/yr. For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicant’s skills, job-related knowledge, and experience.
